"beyond the multiplex"

Friday, September 15, 2006

By MARC MOHAN

"BY THE PEOPLE" -- There are many reasons to vote: civic duty, self-interest, free stickers. But from the sound of this documentary covering preparations for the 2004 presidential election in Indianapolis, perhaps the most compelling reason is to make all the work of people like Doris Anne Sadler worthwhile. She's apparently the centerpiece of Malindi Fickle's earnest film, which demonstrates the immense effort required in mundane ways to ensure that those who choose to have their say on election day are able to do so.

(Opens Friday at the Clinton Street Theater and Brewpub.)
