Indianapolis - Elections are still three months away, but this week you can get a "behind the scenes" look at the democratic process.

A new documentary will soon hit the theaters. It's called By the People and it follows the 2004 Marion County Presidential election process from start to finish.

Among the problems faced by election officials voters listed as deceased who were very much alive and wanting to vote training 5,000 volunteers and how to handle volumes of calls on election day.

The director of the film, an Indianapolis native, explained on Eyewitness News Weekend Sunrise why she took on the project.

"We believe a lot of the apathy in people is they just don't understand they're needed in the process regardless of politics. If the system itself isn't supported--we're not going to be able to disagree so freely," said the Director of "By The People", Malindi Fickle.

"By the People" is already getting critical acclaim from the New York Times. You can see it this Wednesday and Thursday at the Keystone Arts Cinema at the Fashion Mall.

It will also air on PBS in October.
